Our Wedding // D+S

It’s hard to believe that our first wedding anniversary is already upon us. It’s been a great first year! I loved wedding planning, I really wanted our day to be unique and fun. Our wedding was featured on two wedding blogs, which you can find here // Southern Aisle and Groom Sold Separately. We chose this pavilion, which was built before the Depression in Fort Worth’s Trinity Park, for our wedding and reception. Drew and I had a great time finding vintage pieces for wedding decor (now used as home decor!). A few of my favorites are a pretty blue … Continue reading Our Wedding // D+S

Into the Forest

This past weekend we headed to the Ray Roberts Lake for some camping with my husband’s family. It was my very first camping excursion in Texas and the weather was perfect! Despite several of the largest spiders I have ever come into contact with, it was a pretty great trip. I have the pictures and the sunburn to prove it. Homemade Vanilla Bean Marshmallows

This is an adaption of Alton Brown’s marshmallow recipe. I first made these for the s’mores station at our wedding! Don’t let the use of a candy thermometer intimidate you. This recipe is really very simple! One way that I switched it up was with the use of vanilla beans. You could stick to 1 teaspoon of vanilla instead, or any flavoring extract (I really want to try peppermint sometime!). Needed: 3 packages unflavored gelatin 1 cup cold water, divided 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar 1 cup light corn syrup 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 vanilla bean pod 1/2 cup confectioners’ … Continue reading Homemade Vanilla Bean Marshmallows

Cilantro Lime Chicken Fajitas

These fajitas are the perfect blend of sweet and spicy! This is one of the very first recipes that I created, it’s one of my favorites. I love to make these fajitas in the summertime! This recipe can easily be adapted for the grill or it can be tossed into the crockpot (no marinating time necessary!). Fajitas: 3 chicken breasts 1 small onion 2 bell peppers tortillas sour cream cheddar cheese Marinade: 3 limes (juiced) small bunch of cilantro (chopped) 3 tbs olive oil 1/3 cup brown sugar 1 tsp salt 1 tsp chili powder 1/2 tsp cumin 1/2 tsp … Continue reading Cilantro Lime Chicken Fajitas

Industrial Concrete Ball // DIY

Drew had his eye on these stone spheres at Restoration Hardware, but couldn’t justify spending $100 for two. Our knockoff? Less than $8 for the set! Needed: concrete mix toy balls large disposable container mixing tool something to funnel the concrete into your mold sandpaper Cut a hole in the ball (just big enough to funnel concrete inside). Mix up concrete (according to directions on package) in your disposable container. Funnel concrete into your mold. Placing the ball in a bowl will help to keep the bottom from completely flattening out. You may need to add a little more concrete as it settles in … Continue reading Industrial Concrete Ball // DIY

Container Gardening

Last year I started my very first herb garden on our balcony. I planted a little late into the year and my seedlings struggled to survive in full afternoon/evening sun. When warmer weather arrived in Texas over a month ago, I was excited to plant as soon as possible. I also decided to go a little further and try vegetable gardening. I planted Cilantro and Purple Bell Peppers (Yes, Purple!). I also invested in a Topsy Turvy Planter for tomatoes. While it’s not the cutest thing ever, it seems to be doing the job. Plus, it doesn’t take up any room on our … Continue reading Container Gardening

Homemade Glazed Doughnuts

This is such an easy recipe (maybe too easy!). I only make these once in a while, but they turn out perfectly every time! Technically they aren’t 100% homemade, with the use of canned biscuits and all, but they’re so good and don’t at all resemble biscuits when you’re done. If you don’t want to take the time to make a glaze, try tossing the warm donuts in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar! Doughnuts Canola Oil Canned Biscuits (any kind except flaky layers which will absorb too much oil) Use a small round cookie or biscuit cutter to cut … Continue reading Homemade Glazed Doughnuts

Spring Cleaning and Organizing Favorites

1//2//3//4//5//6//7 Happy Friday everyone! Spring has inspired me to do some extra cleaning lately. Here are a few of my cleaning (and organizing) favorites! 1// Method Wood for Good Polish// This stuff keeps wood surfaces looking hydrated without any kind of residue. In my home they hold everything from dry goods, to clothespins, to makeup brushes. 3// Ikea Kitchen Cart// I’ve been drooling over this cart since it came out. Drew surprised me with it this week. I’m using it as a … Continue reading Spring Cleaning and Organizing Favorites

Wrapped Canvas Artwork // DIY

I used this method last year to create a piece of artwork for our bedroom, which featured several lines of text and deep colors. This newest piece has a more simple, bold design. Drew had requested a unique art piece for his office and he designed the graphics that I used to create it. It’s a combination of chevron and our initials. I love it! Needed: Blank Wrapped Canvas (any size) Contact Paper Paint Paint brush and/or sponge brush Stencil (or any design that you’d like on your artwork) Trace out your design onto the paper backing of the contact … Continue reading Wrapped Canvas Artwork // DIY

Roast Beef Stuffed Peppers

These roast beef stuffed peppers make such a great weeknight dinner! Bell peppers are a tasty and healthier way to serve up cheesesteaks (make this recipe with chicken or turkey if you’re not a fan of beef). It’s one of our favorites! Patterned Easter Eggs

I used to love dyeing eggs at Easter… the more vibrant, the better! This year I wanted to do an updated version of Easter egg decorating. I came across a picture of this method and, since I always have brown eggs on hand, decided that this was the perfect project! It’s so simple, just hardboiled eggs and a paint pen! The pen wrote easily on the eggs and dried quickly. Decorate room temperature eggs. Eggs straight from the refrigerator will sweat, causing the paint to run. For more color, try this method on dyed eggs or use a colored paint … Continue reading Patterned Easter Eggs

This is probably my favorite. recipe. ever. The creamy salsa verde sauce is so easy and so good! This is also my favorite dish to make at home… Sour Cream Chicken Enchiladas 16 oz jar salsa verde 16 oz container sour cream 1 bunch of cilantro (washed and chopped) 3 chicken breasts (cooked and shredded) 8-10 tortillas (I used flour) 8 oz monterey jack cheese (shredded or crumbled) 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional) Preheat oven to … Continue reading Sour Cream Salsa Verde Chicken Enchiladas
