It’s hard to believe that our first wedding anniversary is already upon us. It’s been a great first year! I loved wedding planning, I really wanted our day to be unique and fun. Our wedding was featured on two wedding blogs, which you can find here // Southern Aisle and Groom Sold Separately.
We chose this pavilion, which was built before the Depression in Fort Worth’s Trinity Park, for our wedding and reception.
Drew and I had a great time finding vintage pieces for wedding decor (now used as home decor!). A few of my favorites are a pretty blue glass Japanese fish float, blue mason jars, skeleton keys, and an old mailbox that was used for collecting wedding cards.
A lot of creative work went into our wedding. Drew and I made fun signs for the park. My mom made all of the tablecloths. I planted succulents instead of using traditional flowers for table centerpieces. Drew designed all of our wedding stationery. I bought colorful vintage stamps which we used for postage on our invitations.
In keeping with the vintage theme, I asked for our invitations to be hand-stamped when I took them to the post office. While they don’t do it often, the post office will use an old fashioned hand stamp to add a postmark over postage stamps if you ask!
Putting together the menu for our reception was so much fun. My mom and I made cheesecake in jars which were served along with homemade sugar cookies, berries and cheeses. Instead of your average wedding cake, Drew and I chose Lemon and White Chocolate Raspberry bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes. We also had a s’mores bar, complete with homemade marshmallows.
Staying true to our fun and relaxed theme, we chose to include lawn games in place of dancing. Ladder golf is one of our favorites!
I may be biased, but I think our day was absolutely perfect.

Ahh! Congrats! This is beautiful! We had a very similar “vibe” for our August 2011 wedding and did a lot of stuff DIY as well. I feel like I loved the day so much more knowing what we put into it. Thanks for sharing! :)

I love your wedding. This is pretty much exactly what I want to do for my wedding & reception coming up this June. We have rented a pavilion in beautiful park overlooking a lake. What was the set up process like? I want to get everything set up, leave to get ready and then come back an hour before guests arrive to take photo with my fiance. I’m worried about leaving the park because it is a public place, and there is nothing to keep people from stealing our stuff. How did you handle that?
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!! We had a really great group of family and friends that helped make our wedding possible! A group of us went to the park early that morning to set up. Our tables/chairs vendor arrived an hour late (make sure to have enough set-up people prepared to get things done fast!).
We asked our DJ (a friend of ours) to arrive for the wedding a few hours early to watch our things (so that the set-up people could leave to go get ready). We also had several other people arriving an hour or so before the wedding to help with the food table set-up and such.
I arrived early that morning to help set up, left mid-morning to get ready, and arrived back at the park just after lunchtime for pre-wedding photos. It was a bit stressful, but lots of volunteers (and a detailed timeline) helped everything go smoothly!
