Malted Hot Chocolate Mix

Malted Hot Chocolate Mix

Hot chocolate is one of my favorite drinks in the wintertime! It’s so easy to make a batch of homemade hot chocolate mix. Just add this mix to hot water, milk, or coffee!

You can easily turn your homemade mix into a pretty party favor or stocking stuffer…

This mix goes perfectly with the Hot Chocolate Spoons that were on the blog a few days ago! Malted milk powder can be a little tricky to find, this recipe is good with or without!

Malted Hot Chocolate Mix Recipe

3 cups powdered sugar
2 1/2 cups powdered milk
1/2 cup malted milk powder
1 cup dark cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cornstarch

In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients until well combined. Store in an airtight container.

For serving: use 3 to 4 tablespoons of the hot chocolate mix for 8 ounces of hot water or milk.

I like to use disposable frosting piping bags to create a pretty layered mix, perfect for gift giving! Take a bag and fill the tip with mini chocolate chips, add several large spoonfuls of hot chocolate mix, and top with mini marshmallows. Secure the top of the bag with a twist tie.

Use twine or ribbon to create a bow over the twist tie. Add a small tag with serving instructions, or use a marker to write the instructions right onto the bag.

  1. I may be over thinking this, but some powdered sugar has corn starch already in it. So is the extra starch needed or does the recipe assume we are using a corn starch free powdered sugar?

    1. You can make it with or without. The added cornstarch gives the hot chocolate a little bit more of a thick and creamy consistency. I’ve always added cornstarch after seeing it in Alton Brown’s hot chocolate mix recipe years ago.
